Piperazine Citrate Hydrate (CAS: 144-29-6) is used as an anthelmintic for human and farm animal against intestinal obstruction by the common roundworms, a condition primarily occurring in children. For pinworm and Ascaris infection. Piperazine Citrate is an organic compound that consists of a six-membered ring, containting two nitrogen atoms at opposite positions in the ring; first introduced in 1953 as an Anthelmintic. Piperazine Citrate Hydrate is a piperazine salt of citric acid. It is used as an anthelmintic drug and has been shown to be effective against sheep parasites. Piperazine Citrate Hydrate is thermally stable and can be prepared by adding cold water to piperazine hydrochloride, which is heated with aqueous sodium citrate until the solution reaches boiling point. The resulting precipitate is filtered off, washed with water, and recrystallized from glacial acetic acid. Piperazine Citrate Hydrate has been shown to have a viscosity-increasing effect in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol that can be used for methodologies such as densities or solute transfer.
